Footballpicks refers to the yearly opportunity football teams get to improve upon their
performance over last year by adding new players from college teams who are
known to be the best at their game. The NFL draft is held in April every year, and
it brings hope for those teams that didn’t have a good run in the previous
season. Drafting is carried out in three ways :
·
Selecting college players who have been declared eligible for
the draft
·
Trading players between teams
·
Signing a free agent
Like
in a game, where millions of fans sit and watch it on television and some go to
watch it, the draft is also watched on television, and tickets are sold for
fans to attend. They cheer and jeer just as they would have in an actual game.
About a week before the draft, tickets are made available to the fans on a
first-come, first-serve basis. A fan gets only one ticket, which grants
admission for both days of the draft.
The
NFL Draft is made of seven rounds, with the average round consisting of 32
picks, allowing each team to have about one pick per round. A free agent refers
to a player who can sign with another team since his contract has expired. If
any team can make an offer for a player, but that player’s current team is
allowed to match that offer, he is called a “restricted free agent”. If the
current team declines to match that offer, it receives compensation. It may be
in the form of “compensatory picks”, which is based on the loss of restricted
free agents. There can be a maximum of four compensatory picks for each team.
This
is just an introduction to the world of football picks.
